The piece I made was inspired by the painting above, by Vincent van Gogh. It was made in the post-impressionism and realism era most likely in the winter of 1885-86. Van Gogh was largely self-taught, only getting a few months of formal training a few years before he died. He had a large influence on the development of modern painting, especially expressionism. I chose this artist for the actual painting, because I thought this would be a fun piece to recreate in 3D. I thought the construction process would be similar to that of the faces we made in the beginning of the year. It did turn out to be a fairly identical process, except for the minor features. The biggest challenge I faced was attaching the cigarette, since slipping and scoring it in between the teeth was a small space to work in. I chose to leave in without clear glaze, since I thought it would look more realistic to the texture of a skull. I'm glad that the yellow tint shows, since the painting also looks fairly yellow. I used white, banana yellow, black, and mandarin orange underglaze for painting the outside.
